Hi AI4K12 and Dave,
I'd like to suggest another international competition that educators
outside the US might consider : the International Olympiad in Artificial
Intelligence https://ioai-official.org
The IOAI is a new category in international science olympiads for high
school students, alongside maths, physics, chemistry, and informatics.
My country, Mali, sent a team to Beijing this year. It was extremely
well organized and, all-in-all, an extraordinary event, life-changing
for the participants. Next year's edition will be held in Dubai.
Along with Mali, there were 5 other African nations that competed,
thanks, largely, to the recruitment effort toward Africa by the IOAI
organization. I am working to get many more African teams to the
competition next year.
I don't know WAICY but it looks like a wonderful event ... however,
looking at it from Africa, I can't help but notice that the list of
continents for this World event, "North America - Middle East - Europe -
Asia" leaves out several continents, including my own, that were present
at the IOAI ... except, of course, Antarctica.
Very best regards,
Michael Leventhal
