Musical composition is a fine application of AI technologies, but Aiva
is not the first system to tackle the task. To my knowledge, the earliest
AI composer was EMI, developed by David Cope at UCSC:

AI has been a mature field for decades and produced many impressive
success stories before the latest round of excitement. It's important that
we expose students to the field's long and successful history.
