I read quite a few books on AI and technology, but just recently finished a standout among the crowd, AIQ: How People and Machines are Smarter Together by Nick Polson

This book does not assume you have prior knowledge of AI, but it DOES assume you've finished high school and can handle some basic math, statistical concepts, and probability.  It also presents a truly fair look at the benefits and pitfalls of AI in one of the most evenhanded ways I've seen.  The examples are up to date, clear, and clever.  Highly recommended.  It's ten bucks on Kindle or $12 for a paperback.
